Youth Project Coordinator

“Species-rich Antarctica” is a public-facing, educational youth program with a focus on Antarctic biodiversity. It combines education and conceptual art, and aims at giving youth a voice. 

On behalf of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition (ASOC) and Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), I had the chance to realize this project on the occasion of the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings (ATCM) in India and Italy.

 The workshops conveyed the importance of intact Antarctic ecosystems. Every Antarctic species contributes to carbon sequestration, global climate regulation, and the distribution of ocean nutrients across the globe.

 Among many Antarctic species, the emperor penguin was in the focus. It depends on sea ice to breed and urgently needs to be protected.

 The artworks were presented at the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings successfully and delegates had a chance to engage with children and listen to their pledges to stand up for the protection of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.
